The Dutch National Health Care Institute (Zorginstituut Nederland, ZiN) advises on the contents of our basic health care insurance packages. To completely refurbish their headquarters in Diemen, the employees were extensively involved through workshops and presentations.
ZiN has a no nonsense, transparent attitude: a good healthcare system means fixing no more and no less than necessary. This attitude translated to the new interior with a functional and no nonsense work environment that supports a transparent, professional way of working. A perfect fit.
As a backbone to connect the office floors a series of voids was introduced, one above the other, with slender black steel stairs. It is situated in a daylight flood corner of the building, interconnecting the office wings. A stacked series of coffee corners and informal meeting spaces next to the voids ensure an interplay of connections, both visual and physical, graphically intensified with the black ropes, flanking the voids.
Collaboration, connection and professionality were determined as the starting points for the design, with a focus on providing comfortable workplaces with a homely feel. Variation, daylight and integration of greenery contribute to personal wellbeing. Theme rooms named ‘the lab’, ‘ER’, ‘pharmacy’ or ‘psychiatrist’ refer to the services of which the quality and public accessibility are carefully monitored by the institute.
