When the Medicines Evaluation Board (CBG) moved to Utrecht, they decided to take the turn from a traditional cellular office to an innovative office concept based on the New ways of Working (NWoW). Special focus is put on connecting people, interaction, (informal) meeting and the reception of external experts in a trustworthy and representative way.
The employees flex on their own floor having a diversity of functions (like a meeting room, a phone booth and a concentration room), all available within a radius of 20 meter. The workstations are electrically adjustable and special attention is given to acoustics and additional lightning.
Visitors are welcomed in a representative entrance hall, which gives access to the lecturer room in which the medical experts meet twice a month to evaluate the medicines. The lecture room opens to a spacious foyer with a bar, which connects lecture room, meeting rooms and reception.
The project is realized in an existing building and elements of the existing building are reused, like the cupboard wall around the core, the toilets and the basic installations. To improve the connection between the departments on different floors, three new stairs and voids are added. These voids are surrounded by a social area, the ‘club zone’.
Expressing the identity of the CBG, the design has a look & feel which is simultaneously fresh and timeless with classical details. The office floors are materialized with a neutral base of blond wood, sand colors, and chocolate brown, enlivened with turquoise accents. The ‘club zone’ is of the same family, but distinguished by the use of dark colored wood and classical chandeliers.
