Construction on the Unilever Global Foods Innovation Centre in Wageningen is well underway! We are proud to share that Fokkema & Partners Architecten is contracted for the interior design of this innovation powerhouse.

Connectivity and transfer of knowledge are key to the collaborative strategy of Unilever to meet the growing global demand for foods. Unilever decided to centralize the Foods R&D sites from Vlaardingen, Poznan and Heilbronn at the campus in Wageningen. Here, researchers, developers, start-ups, institutes and students will be enabled to work together and build partnerships.

This ambition requires an innovative design, highly accessible, with ample space to meet, to taste and experiment and for flexible ways of working. The interior design by Fokkema & Partners Architecten is all that. The program ranges from a Future foods experience to the Food market and Experience kitchens; and from a large Pilot plant to the Collaboration studios. In co-creation with the user groups the design developed into a coherent environment with highly functional yet adaptive spaces.

The complexity and technology of the program is translated into a transparent and integrated design which engages both visitors and daily users. In line with the circular and sustainable ambitions of Unilever, many existing elements and furniture from previous locations will be re-used.

The global Foods Innovation Centre aims to comply with the highest BREEAM standards. The building is designed by Paul de Ruiter Architects and is under construction by Dura Vermeer. In the beginning of 2019 the new Centre is scheduled to open.
