It has been eighty years since the Apollo House was built to house the social welfare administration offices. Thanks to the - at that time innovatory - steel construction it reaches a height of 40 meters. The slender construction is completed with a ring building at the base, once used for easy transportation and filing of documents. The Apollo house is a listed national monument that acts as a beacon of orientation in Berlage’s “Plan Zuid”. Last week it was selected by the municipality of Amsterdam as “heritage of the week”.
Apollo House in the spotlight
In 2012 Fokkema & Partners completed the renovation of the Apollo House. The interior was completely remodeled for law firm Allen & Overy. While making voids to interconnect the majestic office floors, the monumental steel construction has been exposed. Beautiful details of the connections in construction are now integrated into a timeless interior design that fits the law firm like a custom made suit.
We are proud to have been able to respectfully restore the buildings grandeur for next generations so that it will remain a part of the local identity and architecture heritage.
